As most of you know, my name is Elizabeth Foley and I am a junior. After reading this letter of introduction, I hope that you will have a better grasp on my life. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my mom and dad (when he’s in town), hanging out with my friends, watching One Tree Hill, and shopping of course; what girl doesn’t like shopping? I am an only child, so therefore I get my parent’s all to myself. Unfortunately with no siblings to bicker with, my parent’s get the opportunity to argue with me.
My friends and I enjoy shopping, going to movies (not scary ones, because my friends scream the whole time), and going out to dinner. When we aren’t in the mood to blow all our money we decide to chill at our houses. I value my friends and would not know what I would do without them in my life. Sometimes there are those nights when I don’t feel like being social, so I just lie in my comfy bed and watch Netflix (usually OTH).
Enough about what I do in my free time, now I will tell you a little bit more about me and the person I am. I am sure some of you are wondering exactly what ethnicity I am, so I am going to tell you. My mom was born in Korea and my dad was born here in Iowa, making me half Korean (and no I am not North Korean). I take pleasure in making a difference in the community and other people’s lives. I volunteer on a regular basis at Blank Hospital, with hopes of becoming a doctor when I am older.
So there’s my life story in a nutshell and I appreciate the opportunity to tell you a little about myself.

Personal Reflection on Topic of Inquiry(posted January 27 -- Peer Response January 29)
I’ve grown up being taught that bullying and harassment was wrong and that both are not okay. Throughout the years a number of people of committed suicide, due to the fact that they have been bullied and could not take it any more. In my opinion no one should be harassed just because they are different and aren’t like everyone else. All you are doing when you bully someone is taking away their pride and self confidence, just because your life isn’t the best. So save innocent peoples lives and keep your judgments to yourself.
Bullying is wrong and should be stopped. All across America thousands of schools are preaching about the affects of bullying and what harm it can potentially do to an individual. Anyone who finds entertainments in hurting someone, mentally or physically, should realize the harm they are doing and see what it’s like to be in the victim’s shoes. I am sure everyone knows someone who has either been bullied or is a bully, but I am certain that not everyone can say they stood up for the victim. Standing up to a bully may be difficult, but it needs to be done. So the next time you see someone getting picked on, stand up for the victim and do what’s right. Be brave!
In my own life I have known many people who have taken their lives because of bullying. It is heart breaking to watch an individual hurt so much inside and just let an ignorant bully walk all over them. Not everyone is going to accept your differences, so it is your job to voice your opinion and stand up for yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t worth anything just because they aren’t happy with their own lives. You have every right to be here and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise
I intend my further examination of harassment and bullying. How can we stop bullying and save the lives of many?
There is a weak tone that can be improved if there is less “is, was, should, could, etc’. Use more diversity in word chose. The last sentence is very good. - G. H.
Rough Draft Definition (posted February 3 -- Peer Response February 5) Belittlement of The Innocent
More than twenty percent of students have been harassed in school and the numbers keep rising. Harassment can come in a variety of different forms, ranging from verbal to physical harassment. Both of these types are affecting a large number of students and impacting their experience at school. Those individuals who uses their superior strength or influence to intimidate someone, usually to force him or her to do what one wants would be classified an oppressor. These people are ruining the lives of thousands.
Think about a time in your life when you have been teased because you wore the wrong thing, how did you feel? Victims of maltreatment suffer from depression, low-self esteem, health problems, poor grades, and even worse; suicidal problems. In these individuals everything about them is being belittled, forcing them to have a negative outlook on life. About 160,000 students stay home from school due to the negative intentions of the antagonizer. Student’s who encounter the aggressive behavior of those superior to them must stand up.
Individuals with passively aggressive behavior towards one another are considered bullies. Those guilty of this horrid behavior will likely have anger problems, self confidence issues, and many of the same characteristics of those being bullied; which is rather ironic. Anyone who respects those around them and is a very positive person would not be considered a bully. So count yourself lucky if you can say you are a consciences human being.
No matter if you are the oppressor or the victim your life is impacted. The environment at school is now registered in your mind as unsafe and your motivation to learn is belittled. The information being taught is the least of your worries, rather the negative comments that you have yet to hear. The school’s “safe” atmosphere is destroyed once students are threatened by other students.
Bullying is a form of harassment and can be defined as a domineering person, domineering meaning one’s will over another in an arrogant way. Both the bully and the student being bullied will suffer from depression, low self-esteem, and suicidal problems. The victim will undergo a numerous incidences of negative commentary and behavior, while the oppressor experiences a sense of pleasure. The school setting is being harmd due to these immoral human beings, and the innocent people must be saved from death. It very good with the format but still uses weak verbs. Expanding can help. G. Reflection #1 (posted February 20 -- Peer ResponseFebruary 22)
The definition essay was certainly one of the hardest papers I have ever written, it was a lot different than any paper I have ever written. The thing I had the most trouble with was brainstorming various ways to define my term. I wish I would have used more imagery in my paper to provide a better picture for my audience. My paper was lacking deep thoughts, followed by support and examples. In order to make my paper better I needed to eliminate a number of weak verbs and include more figurative language.
Rough Draft Comparison (postedFebruary 24 -- Peer Response February 26 ) Bullying is an ongoing is in schools across America, there is normally a distinct difference between the actions and responses of males and females. Females tend to take the emotional route, while males are more physical. Males who are bullied will isolate themselves and withdraw from the world. Females who are bullied normally react with their emotions. Both genders who are bullied suffer just as much and try to dominate younger siblings. No matter the gender, bullies go after those who are less likely to fight back and may exploit that perceived weakness when picking their targets. As one would expect, male bullies are more physical than females and are more impulsive. On the other hand females are also guilty of physical bullying, they tend to have more emotional means; such as verbal abuse, manipulation, and exclusion. Girls go about bullying in a rather malicious way and commonly will spread rumors and gossip; while usually sticking in groups. Regina George from “Mean Girls” is the ideal female bully, she expects her clique to follow everything she says and controls their every move. Males are more direct with their actions and enjoy a good fight, meaning they’ll give you a little shove or push you against wall. They also seize to take an opportunity they have to victimize a person, no matter if they are riding solo or not.
Researchers have found that girls as young as four years old learn how to manipulate their peers and exclude kids. They will tell lies and secrets to get other kids to shun the offender. At this age boys have yet to learn this technique and are more interested in playing in the sandbox, rather than excluding their fellow friends. Once mature both genders learn the best ways to depress one’s life and make them feel like a half eaten sandwich.
The way one responds to bullying differs depending on their gender. Boys will isolate themselves from the outside world and withdraw completely. Teenaged boys commonly look to their videogames as therapy, unlike girls. Girls react using their emotions and like males they suddenly have a reluctance to go to their favorite stores and take part in society. Aggression and hostility tend to become apparent in males who have been bullied, while females will be more sensitive and tearful. Both of these reactions show you how the two both suffer just as much, no matter the way they react.
Both genders take part in bullying, although males are far more likely to bully. While females target one’s emotions, they also react using their emotions. Males on the other hand physically attack and isolate themselves when being bullied. Bullying puts a toll on one’s life, no matter what gender you are. Parent’s shall seek to educate their children on the harms of bullying and examine the differences between the genders. It is good using comparing genders to bullying. But the sterotypes makes me question the reliablity of the paper. Although at older ages, the bullies you discribed is accruate. Bullying happen at other ages too. I know a little girl who was bothered by a boy 2 grades older. She gave the boy a punch in the face. G.H.

The compare and contrast essay I wrote was a lot different than one’s I have written in the past. I felt as if this essay was well organized and followed the structure assigned. One thing that I need to improve on is my editing process. I will admit that once I write an essay I don’t put much work into making it better, so I hope that in our next essay I put in the effort to do my very best work. During the editing process your paper becomes dramatically different and fits into more of the collegiate level. Another thing I lack in my essay is my diction and syntax. My vocabulary is repetitive and takes away from the paper.
Rough Draft Argument (posted April 6 -- Peer Response April 8)
Some believe that schools should monitor cyber bullying and it’s their responsibility to prevent this type of harassment. Cyber bullying can come in many different forms, and may not be school related. That is why people have different opinions on whose responsibility is it. I believe that depending on the case, both the school and family should take measures in solving the issue.
School is a place of learning and no one shall be bullied because of their differences. We live in a world today where everyone is different, and no two people are alike. When it comes to cyber bullying the bully uses a form of technology to express their opinions about that person. The bully is able to opening diminish one’s emotions while having a barrier protecting themselves from any harm. The screen acts as a barrier, by giving the bully an opportunity to express foul comments and in turn hurt the victim.
Any parent who suspects their child of being cyber bullied shall take certain measures. I believe that if they choose to take it to the school depending on the level of immediacy and the words being said about their child. A school must look at the case and determine if those participating in the harm shall be punished or if they need to be spoken to. A child who at anytime feels like they are being harassed over the internet should notify someone and that person should help that individual get help.
No one person deserves to feel as if they are nothing in this world, because everyone has the right to live in our world today. America is a place in which we accept people’s differences and don’t point out those who may not act like we do. Schools and parent’s must work together to solve the problem and prevent it from happening again.
It lacks a flow of logical reasoning (Deductive or Inductive). It does not include the opposing view. It is good that you present solutions. Other then a few errors it an improvement from your previous essays. G.H. Extra credit (defintion essay) Belittlement of the Innocent

More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyber threats online. In the school environment individuals brainstorm how one may successfully threat someone via the internet or text. School administers shall not allow this behavior and promote this harassment. Under these circumstances, the school must act immediately and punish those who were involved in the threat.

Rough Draft Definition (posted February 3 -- Peer Response February 5)
Belittlement of The Innocent

Rough Draft Comparison (postedFebruary 24 -- Peer Response February 26 )
Bullying is an ongoing is in schools across America, there is normally a distinct difference between the actions and responses of males and females.

Along with that teachers should inform their students on the harm of cyber bullying and the punishments one may suffer if they choose to participate. Parents who suspect their child of being cyber bullied shall take certain measures to save their child.
Some may argue that teenagers are old enough to deal with the problem on their own, but what teenager has the courage to do so. No one wants to be known as the kid whose parent got another student in trouble for harassing them. This would ruin their reputation and may destroy their high school experience.
